Wildcat Canyon Road is a critical evacuation route serving the Berkeley Hills, where repeated landslides have occurred due to aging and failed drainage infrastructure. Over time, increased runoff and undersized facilities have heightened slope instability and safety concerns for the surrounding community.
CSWST2 supported the City of Berkeley by evaluating drainage conditions along approximately 9,400 feet of roadway. The team assessed more than 25 culverts and identified deficiencies contributing to excessive runoff velocities and erosion. Recommended improvements included culvert rehabilitation, new outfalls, and energy-dissipation features such as rock slope protection, standpipes, and dissipaters.
The project provides a long-term strategy to reduce landslide risk, improve roadway resilience, and protect a vital transportation corridor through targeted drainage and slope stabilization measures.
