Tunitas Creek Beach Restoration | San Mateo County
CSWST2 partnered with the San Mateo County Parks Department, the Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST), and the California Coastal Conservancy to restore and improve public access to Tunitas Creek Beach, a breathtaking stretch of coastline along Highway 1.
Once an unmanaged site impacted by years of informal use, the project reimagines Tunitas Creek Beach as a safe, sustainable, and inclusive coastal destination. CSWST2 provided planning, permitting, and civil design services to support new park infrastructure, including parking facilities, a ranger station and residence, trail access, and a coastal overlook with panoramic ocean views.
Community engagement played a central role in shaping the design, guided by goals of environmental protection, education, equity, and outdoor experience. The result is a restored landscape that celebrates natural beauty while expanding access to one of San Mateo County’s most spectacular public beaches.
