CSW|ST2 provided civil engineering design services for Whole Foods / The Millworks Mixed-Use Center, a 420,880 square foot mixed-use site located in Novato that was successfully developed by Signature Properties to include 124 residential townhouses and flats. An additional 39,000 square feet of commercial space has been incorporated for Whole Foods Market, a library, a fitness and wellness room and two parking garages intended to accommodate both shoppers and residents.

The project incorporated many features to provide future owners with the ability to save money, maintain healthy living environments, and promote a sustainable development. Some of those features include: bicycle and pedestrian friendly access, including dedicated covered bicycle storage; passive solar lighting; built-in recycling centers; energy Star appliances throughout the building; state-of-the-art wall and ceiling insulation; a rooftop garden, equipped with trees, fountains and BBQ grills. The building was also constructed with pre-engineered lumber to reduce waste and also ensured that the job site waste was properly recycled.

Novato residents were thrilled to welcome their new Whole Foods Market, which opened to great fanfare on Earth Day, April 2, 2010. The new market is hugely popular with residents, and has helped create a vibrant new anchor for Grant Avenue, the city’s historic main street.
