CSW|ST2 provided civil engineering for a new medical center built on the southern end of the Mission Bay Campus. The three hospital building complex is located on 14.5 acres and includes 289-beds, and is a six-story, 878,000-sq.-ft. facility. The center includes Benioff Children’s Hospital, UCSF Women’s Specialty Hospital, and UCSF Cancer Hospital at Mission Bay, Part of the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center; an outpatient building, a hospital services building, an energy center as well as an at-grading parking lot and campus access roads.
The estimated construction cost of the project was $1.5 billion. One of the greenest urban hospitals in the nation, the UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay received LEED Gold certification prior to occupancy. The complex features 16 individual gardens totaling 4.3 acres of green space, which includes over an acre of rooftop gardens to help reduce storm water runoff. The complex delivers 100 percent outdoor air, rather than re-circulated, to every space.
